Instead of doing my homework, I read 10 volumes of Ranma 1/2...
It’s so stupid and ridiculous, yet I can’t stop… why couldn’t the artist make Inuyasha more like this instead of long-winded and boring? I used to like Inuyasha as a kid… but even then I had to stop because it just kept GOING.
I tried watched the first episode of the anime, wow so old! Listen to those sound effects! But you know, they REALLY animated it, with moving figures and everything, none of that re-used scenes and lazy animation that anime is filled with today. Is that because it’s old school?? Or maybe it’s just the pilot… and it really keeps close to the manga, which is always an awesome thing to do.
Why am I doing this? I was playing the old Chinese man/Kung Fu chapter in Live-a-Live and I kept thinking of Ranma 1/2. I didn’t realize as much as a kid how much of the Chinese vs Japanese culture is in it… oh, and the boobs thing doesn’t really bother me because you know, I’m a girl.
So you know I’ve been obsessing over the old school Final Fantasy for the last few days… Final Fantasy IX especially, since it’s been my favorite game in the world since I was a kid.
I was browsing reddit, clicked the link… AND HOLY HELL IT STARTED PLAYING FINAL FANTASY IX MUSIC! In that humongous library of music, and IX being the most underrated in the series, HOW ON EARTH DID THAT HAPPEN!
I think I’m always going to be sad that people will never be able experience these amazing stories and characters and music and worlds just because the medium of video games or comics turns them off. Even with anime, something I abhor, I know there are quite a few gems that I’m missing out on.
I love traditional RPGs so much. The experiences I got to have as a kid were so amazing. I say ‘experience’ instead of see because video games are not limited to sight. You hear the wonderful music, run around the expansive worlds, and use your mind the think your way out of puzzles and battles.
Video games, comics, animated films… I wish everyone would experience them. Unfortunately, the people who have are only a few percentage… It’s a sad thought that’s always in the back of my head.
People stopped buying JRPGs when they started innovating. FFX was the last Final Fantasy game that wasn’t some stupid-ass gameplay experiment. If I buy a game with the number 13 on the end, don’t you think I’m okay with it playing the way it’s played over the last twelve iterations?
JRPGs used to be about the story. Like books. You don’t see people running around bitching that books aren’t innovative enough.
I was feeling really nostalgic for the old Final Fantasy games, and teared up a little bit listening to Tour de Japon “You’re Not Alone!” on YouTube. Opened up the playlist of all the Final Fantasy concert music I had and just had a bit of a drawing session as tribute as one of the most grand series in video game history…
